Library’s 2nd Annual Pay it Forward Project

October 7th, 2009 by rux
  • Students – Submit your artwork for the Library’s Second Annual Pay-It-Forward Project and Win Cash Prizes!
  • Faculty and Staff  – Vote for your favorite student art work!

Carl B. Ylvisaker Library is, for the second year, rising to the Pay-It-Forward challenge and designating October and November as “Pay-It-Forward to Flynn Murray.”  Flynn Murray is a Moorhead resident who sustained a severe injury in a car accident last March while attending college in Montana.  The 23-year-old was driving home from a nearby ski resort when the car went off the road and rolled several times. While Flynn suffered a broken neck and severe spinal cord injury from the accident, her brother was able to walk away. Flynn spent the first five months after the accident in hospitals in Bozeman and Denver. In August, she returned to Moorhead.

Flynn, who was pursuing an engineering degree at Montana State at the time of the accident, hopes to return to school in January 2010. In addition to medical expenses that far exceed the family’s insurance, they are looking to purchase a wheel-chair accessible van, which will cost approximately $30,000.

The “Pay-It-Forward to Flynn Murray” campaign is an art show and contest. Any current Concordia College student may enter one piece of original artwork during the month of October. Items entered can be photography, paintings, drawings, or other two-dimensional items.  Entry forms are located on the library’s website http://library.cord.edu and at the Circulation Desk.  All artwork will be returned to the artists after the winners are announced on December 10.

During the month of November, students, faculty, staff and the community at large will be able to “vote” for their favorite art pieces – with money, a penny a vote. The “votes” will be tallied daily with the results posted on Facebook and in the library lobby. State Bank & Trust gift cards will be given to the “winners”:  first place $100, second place $60, and third place $40. If the winning entries are within 5 votes (one nickel) of each other, the higher prize will be awarded to both entries.

Please submit your artwork before October 31! Then take time to vote for your “favorite” beginning November 1.
